Adam Simmonds graduated from The City University, London, in 1981 and became a Member of the British College of Optometrists the following year. In early 1987, at the age of 26, Adam set up eye - tech, in London's Soho. It became renowned as the trendy opticians, through a combination of location, over-friendly service, innovative interior design, unique stock and through securing exclusive deals with frame companies.

Contact lenses have evolved out of all recognition since their early days in the 1960s and 70s. When I first qualified, opticians spent an enormous amount of time sorting out contact lens problems and resultant eye infections. Around half the new fittings were either hard or gas permeable lenses which meant wearers weren't happy until they'd spent around six months of adaptation.

Dry Eye Treatment

Dry Eyes and blepharitis are common complaints affecting the quality of life of millions of people in the UK. Dry Eye syndrome is five to six times more common in women than in men. Symptoms include dryness, itching, stinging, redness and difficulty wearing contact lenses. Often, watery eyes are caused by dryness.
Myopia Control

As a student I was intrugued by children from the States wearing bifocals. Years later I discovered that this was one of the first methods being trialled to reduce escalating shortsightedness. Unfortunately bifocals in children have a virtually non-existent success rate. Other methods with slightly better results include multifocal contact lenses, using atropine eyedrops at varying doses and Orthokeratology, in which hard lenses are worn at night.In parallel, significant research has been conducted into how and why children's eyes grow, which is the cause of increased myopia.

Adam was fantastic in evaluating my needs with regards to fitting contact lenses (something I had struggled with in the past at other opticians). Adam explained the process in an easy-to-understand manner, handling everything with professionalism and efficiency. He and his staff are so friendly and accommodating. Would recommend to anyone.

Adam is a first rate optometrist. He considers all aspects of what you need to see for, before advising on your options. I am sure he would prefer to have sold more pairs of spectacles and prescription sunglasses to me over the years, but because each pair was so perfect I wanted to wear them for as long as possible. Perfect prescription and perfect frames. Neither are cheap but they are such good value.

I have been going to Adam Simmonds for over ten years. He is a fantastic optician, completely professional, extremely knowledgeable and thorough and I wouldn't trust the health of mine and my family's eyes to anyone else. Visiting his Primrose Hill shop is always a very pleasant experience, his staff are friendly and welcoming and he has a great and varied range of frames, sunglasses and lenses. Would wholeheartedly recommend.

Adam is a charming guy and I owe my optical happiness entirely to him. Always seems pleased to see you, has the grooviest frames in the shop and the most advanced tech in the back room. He introduced me to lenses and specs that massively improved my quality of life. And he gave our fox terrier a biscuit. Probably the best and certainly the nicest optometrist in London.

I first visited Adam Simmonds in Primrose Hill in about 2006 having researched where to buy really cool eye candy. I haven't looked back. Upon my first visit to this wonderful emporium I bought some really cool glasses and sun glasses and I've been returning ever since. You can rest assured of really good service, exceptional knowledge from Adam who really knows his onions and what he doesn't know about eye health probably isn't worth knowing. Highly recommend.

Can't speak highly enough of Adam Simmonds and his team. They are experienced and highly professional. Came to them after a bad experience and they put me right immediately and from then on whenever I've looked for new glasses they have been honest about how they look not ever looking simply to make a sale. All the staff are welcoming, detailed and make walking into the store a pleasure. Am so pleased to finally have found an Opticians with an excellent choice of glasses/sunglasses and a highly experienced optician in Adam. I'm not going anywhere else.

Adam is a superb Optometrist. He is a perfectionist, and his eye tests are always spot on. He has the latest equipment and nothing is left to chance. He also has great taste and the most wonderful range of frames, from classic to super quirky. There is something here for everyone. Adam and his assistants (a special mention to Immy) give superb customer service. Nothing is too much trouble. A really great place to go for all your optical needs.

My local opticians. I've been going since they opened and keep going back. They stock the best selection of frames I've ever found and the team are brilliant. Adam the owner is always there and does most (if not all?) the eye tests. Apart from being a Spurs fan he's a very nice man. Highly recommend.

I f-ing love my new contact lenses. Adam is terrific. You can tell he genuinely cares about the health of his patients' eyes, versus just getting you a prescription and sending you on your way. And he has (so far) exercised great patience with my gauche American ways - no small feat in this town. Highly recommend.

Just happened to stumble across this site and saw a bad review of Adam and felt it necessary to balance it with a very favourable one. I've been seeing Adam for all my optical requirements for many, many years and now my husband and children see him too. I have always found him and his practice first class. He is, in my opinion, an exceptional optometrist. I have been present when extremely demanding customers have come in and I have been amazed at his calmness and professionalism.

Found the owner to be arrogant, opinionated and unprofessional. Mr Simmonds told me the eye test was included in the package (I had bought expensive Lindberg acetate frames and lenses and a pair of Goldsmith sunglasses) but noticed he had added it to the receipt, which I got after I paid! He did reimburse me for the charge but had I not looked at it, I would not have noticed.
He spoke badly about customers when I was in the shop, which I thought was unprofessional and wondered what he said about me after I left as he was quite imposing and when I challenged him about my choice of frame. He was imposing and felt he was pushing me to make a decision. He was also very late for a follow up appointment, blaming it on building work he had to attend to or something of that nature. Very expensive also, have since found similar options in Hampstead. All in all, was very unimpressed.

Oliver Goldsmith, Oliver Peoples, Anne et Valentin, Claire Goldsmith, Lunor, Theo, IC Berlin, Dita, Paul Smith, Mosley Tribes, Rayban Adam has some of the coolest glasses around, the staff are super nice, always helpful, and Primrose Hill is a fabulous place to spend a day shopping / lunching / sunbathing on the hill.
