A regular eye examination is an essential part of your overall eye health and can detect problems and changes in your vision. Unfortunately, some eye conditions can lead to a loss of vision or even permanent blindness. Done regularly, an eye examination can help to prevent the onset of eye diseases and prevent deterioration in your sight.
An eye examination takes just 30 minutes, in which time our optometrists will thoroughly check your vision and the health of your eyes. An eye examination is not uncomfortable, and your optometrist will use a range of different methods and equipment to check your eyes.
Every spectacle wearer knows how easily frames can be damaged, but this need not mean new glasses, of course. Our opticians can carry out minor repairs.
From Our Website
Please telephone to make an appointment for any reason, if you arrive without prior booking, we may not be able to see you. We will also have to ask you a few questions about your visit. We may invite you to a longer telephone or an online video consultation before your appointment to enable us to clearly determine your needs and reduce the amount of time that you have to spend in the practice. We may have to lock the door occasionally to control the number of people in the practice at any one time.
30 minute appointments are standard for over 16's meaning you get longer with the optician. We are happy to see NHS and private patients, and children from 6 months upwards. You will be able to have an extended eye examination which includes an OCT examination, which allows us to detect eye disease such as AMD and Glaucoma earlier. Because of our independence we are able to provide you with a large selection of frames and lenses to suit your needs. Openshaw Opticians was first established in 1946 by Robert Openshaw when he bought out Stansfield Jewellers est.

This page provides the answers to some of the questions that eyecare practitioners are most often asked. Q: Is it true that wearing glasses all the time will make my eyes lazy and I will become dependent on them? When people wear the proper glasses they realise they can see more clearly and comfortably. What they may have considered normal and acceptable before is now inferior by comparison. A: The term 'optometrist' came into use in 1987 to replace 'ophthalmic optician' in the same way that 'pharmacist' replaced 'chemist'.
The right lenses are crucial to good vision and comfortable spectacle wearing. They differ from eye to eye. We will give you comprehensive advice on choosing the best lenses for you and have a vast selection in stock.
