From Our Website

Unlike most of your body, your eyes do not usually hurt when there is something wrong. We use a range of diagnostic techniques and equipment to build up an accurate picture of the health of your eyes and detect common ocular problems. Our examination can pick up early signs of potentially blinding eye conditions, such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease or macular degeneration. The earlier a problem is detected the greater the chance of successful treatment. The eye examination can also detect a number of other underlying health problems, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes.

Our investment in technology helps in the testing your eyes and to obtain the right pair of spectacles for you. Our eye test charts are computerised to give us more ways of checking your vision, internal eye pressure is measured using tonometers, visual fields are screened with computer screeners, and in Southampton we have a digital retinal camera to inspect and record the appearance at the back of the eyes. If you find it difficult to see how new frames look, we have digital imaging at both branches to help you choose.

Neale Opticians is a family run firm and our reputation for high standards is important to us. We are dedicated to providing the highest standards of professional care, together with a friendly service, quality branded products and excellent value. At our practices our opticians, whether optometric or dispensing, have passed exams set by the qualifying body and are registered with The General Optical Council which regulates our profession. We have always seen our role as providers of eye care. This means the best investigation, analysis and advice as to the benefits of treatment where needed whether it is visual correction, managing lid hygiene/dry eye, monitoring retinal changes, cataracts and more.

It is important in the developing eye that any anomalies are identified and remedied. Children can't always appreciate how well they should be seeing and may not show any signs of having a problem. This may have an effect on the child's educational development. We will check for any refractive errors as well as ensuring that muscle balance and colour vision are normal for their age. Even when all these conditions are satisfactory a child may suffer from Visual Stress which inhibits reading ability, whether bookwork, music or whiteboard.

Eye wear today is exciting, comfortable, and fun to wear. A fashion accessory in themselves, spectacles come in all shapes, sizes and a range of weights, so you really will be able to find the perfect frame for you. We look to provide well made frames while keeping up to date with new styles. From low-cost (yet still practical, fashionable and durable) to quality brands that suit face shapes and skin tones. Our friendly staff can help you choose the right frames both for your face and your budget.
