The NHS at a local level commissions extra services that are not part of a routine eye examination and currently the services that can be provided in the community vary throughout Devon. Across Devon there is an IOP referral refinement service. This service is to refine eye pressures tests to ensure only appropriate patients are referred to hospital with certain eye conditions. This service provides urgent eye assessments for patients complaining of recent/sudden onset of specific minor eye conditions.
At Angus McPhie Optometrists, we recommend regular eye examinations to ensure your child's eyes develop healthily as they grow up. It's estimated that one in seven school-aged children suffer from an undiagnosed eye condition, which is unforgivable considering eye tests are free for anyone under the age of 16. We recommend you bring your child to see us annually because, from a young age, their vision develops at a dramatic rate - and problems can develop just as quickly. If issues are detected before the age of eight, they can be corrected far more easily than at a later age.
Regular examinations let us maintain your good eye health and clear vision, so we do everything we can to make sure check-ups with us are a pleasant and relaxing experience. From the moment you walk in the door, every member of staff you meet will show the same high standard of friendly yet professional customer service. All members of staff from our Reception right through your visit with us are fully qualified. All Reception and Screening staff are trained Clinical Assistants, All our Dispensers are experienced practitioners each with over 20 years experience and our Optometrists are equally experience having also been in practice with us for over 15 years.
Everyone always wants to look their best. So finding the most appropriate frame to suit is very important. Our Dispensers will help to guide you through the extensive range we have available, using their knowledge and expertise to recommend the frame shape, colour and size that best suits your features. Discussing with you when, why and where you feel the need to wear glasses will help our dispensers find the most appropriate eyewear for you and along with our advanced, bespoke lenses measuring systems we can provide you with the most modern, flattering and clear vision possible.

Utilising the very latest in eye scan technologies called Optical Coherence Tomography the REVO-OCT Wellness Scan provides a non invasive imaging method allowing detailed visualisation beneath the retinal surface to detect any abnormalities in the different retinal layers, to an almost cellular level, and monitor any changes over time. The scan itself takes only a matter of minutes. It is totally non-invasive, so nothing touches your eye so it's pain/discomfort free! You will be asked to place your chin on the rest and look at a light, which may be moved according to the area scanned.
