From Our Website

This year Jones & Murphy celebrates 70 years of providing clinically outstanding eyecare in Carmarthenshire. Founded in 1949 by Mr Dewi Jones, then joined by Mr Adrian Murphy in 1967 and more latterly by Dr Adrian Jones in 2006, Jones & Murphy continues at the forefront of community focused eyecare and high quality eyewear. Mr Dewi Jones became an apprentice pharmacist in Trimsaran, and duly became a member of the Pharmaceutical Society. During World War Two, he was stationed at Pembrey, in the Munitions Factory there, and worked as a chemist, supervising the production of nitroglycerine and the dangerous job of supervising the rolling of liquid nitroglycerine down dark tunnels to be collected for the manufacture bombs and shells.

As an independent practice we are able to provide you with high performance spectacle lenses from top manufacturers such as Hoya, Nikon, Essilor, Seiko and Zeiss. We have chosen Hoya as our main supplier due to their exceptionally high quality, broad spectrum of products and value for money that seems unrivalled in the sector. As a Hoya Lens Specialist Practice we are able to provide custom made high performance spectacle lenses that are individually tailored to suit your needs. All of our lenses are available in high index materials to improve the aesthetic appearance and reducing the weight.

We tailor the sight test to meet the individual needs of our patients, not all tests are suitable for all patients. This is also available to eligible patients on the NHS. Detailed history will be taken to enable specific areas to be concentrated on, this will include your medical history, current medications (please bring a copy of your prescription with you), previous ophthalmic history, your family ophthalmic history as well as any hobbies, sports and jobs you might do. Assessment of your vision with and without any glasses you may already have.

All of our patients are looked after by our team of dispensing assistants many years experience. They will help and advise you on the most suitable frame for the prescription and lens type plus (most importantly) which style of frame suits your style. Colour, shape and material all influence this choice and also the lifestyle needs and purpose of the new glasses. Frame prices start from as little as 10 though there is a range of free frames available for those that qualify for an NHS voucher. Children's frames are also free as are examinations and lenses for those up to the age of 19 and in full education.

Glaucoma is the name given to a group of conditions in which the optic nerve suffers a characteristic form of damage at the back of the eye which is often associated with a raised level of intraocular pressure. It can cause irreversible vision loss if left untreated. Fortunately glaucoma is easily treated with eye drops if diagnosed early but despite this it is still one of the biggest causes of blindness in the developed World. If you are concerned about glaucoma or have been identified as being at risk we can provide a NICE compliant diagnostic examination performed by Dr Jones who holds the College of Optometrists Higher Diploma in Glaucoma which will provide you with an diagnosis and treatment if required.
