Evans & Hughes Optometrists recognise that while the routine examination is the foundation of good eyecare, it is not always sufficient to ensure optimum visual performance and to completely minimise the risk of eye disease. our optometrists therefore offer a number of additional examinations designed to meet the specific needs of each patient.

Made me feel very unwelcome and treated me like I was in the way. Wasted 3 hours of my time and even though I did as they requested by getting a signed copy of my eye prescription they still did not provide me with a pair of contacts. Poor timely decision making stills from the optician. She basically wanted to ignore me for long enough for me to leave. Have complained to the manager with no reply. Poor show!

From Our Website

Here at Evans & Hughes we have a long history. Many things have changed since Selwyn Evans first opened in Llandovery in 1949, but one thing has remained the same for almost 70 years now, and that's our dedication to our patients. Today, we continue to deliver what we feel is an unrivalled level of patient care. We have about 20 members of staff across our 4 practices, and each of them is committed to going above and beyond what is expected of them - from delivering glasses to house-bound patients on their way home, to obtaining further qualifications so we can offer additional services.

I decided I wanted to become an optician when I was 18 years old. A friend of mine was interested in the industry, and once we got talking, I realised it appealed to me too. Many moons later, I now co-own my very own practice. We run things a little differently to other practices however, and our opticians personally look after every patient they see from the moment they enter our practice until the moment they leave. That gives us 100% responsibility for our patients, and allows us to build great relationships with each and every one of them - something I particularly enjoy.

Your child's vision is possibly their most precious sense. Did you know that the majority of eye conditions have no obvious early signs or symptoms so your child could have a potential problem without you knowing about it. Additionally, children only have their own experience of the world. They don't know what 'normal' vision is if they've never had it. It is therefore extremely important that your child has their eyes tested at regular intervals so that any indications of problems can be dealt with straight away.

If you or your child suffers from a specific learning difficulty, the most common being dyslexia you will be no stranger to some of the symptoms that accompany the condition - words moving around the pages, letters and number swapping around and general discomfort with reading and writing. This visual stress which can sometimes be helped with changing background colour is termed Meares-Irlen Syndrome or Scotopic Sensitivity. Here at Evans & Hughes, our opticians offer specialist testing using computer software to help identify the colour that does just that for you.

Choosing new glasses is a big decision. They're the first thing someone notices about you after all. It's for that reason here at Evans & Hughes we have built up an extensive collection of frames for you to choose from. That way, you're guaranteed to find something that not only suits your features but your wallet too. If it is designer labels you are looking for then we have some of the best-known brands in the world, including Rayban, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Polo, Ted Baker, Police, Joules, Barbour and Silhouette - just to name a few.

The best thing about dealing with one person each time you come to see us is that you can relax. You'll get to know your optician by name and we hope that you feel comfortable enough to ask any questions that you have at any time. You needn't worry however, as we'll always explain everything to you as we go along anyway. Should you require eyewear once your sight test is complete, your optician will help you find a product that best suits your needs, whether that's glasses or contact lenses. They will be able to point you in the right direction of the frames that will compliment your features, and offer an honest opinion about how you look too.
