They have a great selection of brands to choose from and Tim was extremely helpful and patient with me when it came to making my final decision on which pair to choose. My contact lenses have supported me through the start of my professional cricket career. Along with excellent service from Edmonds and Slatter I have confidence in my vision before I take to the field. Hi Tim, just a quick note to thank you and your colleagues for the excellent service and advice in providing new glasses and contact lenses.
If you suffer from discomfort, burning, stinging, itchiness or grittiness (foreign body sensation) you may have dry eyes. A dry eye can often become red, watery and sore due to the over secretion of fluid resulting in poor quality tears. This can make the eyes tired, sore and disturb the clarity of vision. Dry eye symptoms occur when there is a problem with the tears that lubricate the surface of the eye. Dry eye can affect us at any age but is more common as we get older and can be associated with prescribed medication or certain health conditions.
They are specially trained on eye conditions including Blepharitis and Dry Eye which can affect vision and visual comfort. Approximately 60% of people suffer from Dry Eye or Blepharitis and are unware that the conditions can be prevented with a few lifestyle changes and a good cleaning regime. Ocular Hygienists are perfectly placed to advise patients on good eye health and how to keep these common conditions under control, saving patients from experiencing unnecessary discomfort. Our Hygienists will spend as much time as you need explaining your eye care regime and demonstrating how to use dry eye products.
What happens on the day? On arrival at the practice, you will be greeted by our friendly Optical Assistant team, before being taken through for field of vision screening and digital retinal imaging. The results of these additional tests will be sent through to your Optometrist for review during your eye examination. We allow a full 30 minutes for your eye examination, so you won't feel rushed and you will have the opportunity to discuss any concerns with your Optometrist. You will then sit down for a one-to-one consultation with a senior Dispensing Optician who will discuss your lifestyle, visual needs and style preferences with you.
Coloured overlays and tinted spectacle lenses have been proven to help people suffering with Visual Stress, Dyslexia, Photosensitive Migraines and other conditions. Edmonds & Slatter opticians have a number of staff who are trained in Overlay and Full Colorimetry Assessment using specialist overlay screening kits and our Intuitive Colorimeter. It is essential that every person who struggles to read or suffers from symptoms of Visual Stress, first undergoes a full eye sight test. This is important to rule out any eye problems that may be causing or contributing towards the symptoms.
The eye examination is at the core of the service we provide. You will be seen by a fully qualified registered Ophthalmic Optician providing the highest standard of care and attention. The eye examination is a comprehensive test starting with your medical and family history of eye problems. Typically, your Optometrist will then perform a series of tests to check your eye health, vision, field of vision, the pressure inside your eyes and how well your eyes work together. We check for colour blindness, glaucoma, diabetes and a range of other health conditions.
Edmonds & Slatter Opticians have been awarded Essilor's Varilux Gold Specialist accreditation, achieved as a result of our understanding and appreciation of varifocals. We are committed to fitting the finest products available for the benefit of our customers. Not all progressive lenses are alike. It is essential that the correct product is chosen for the purpose for which it is intended, and then carefully fitted to ensure the dynamics of the lenses are fully utilised. Varilux X Series is the first varifocal lens to dramatically reduce head movement and ensure that your vision is as natural as possible for everyday activities within arm's reach and beyond.
Our staff have been extensively trained to advise you on the best choice of lenses and lens coatings. These can have a huge effect on the final appearance of your spectacles - for instance, thinner lenses are available for high prescriptions, and special coatings can reduce glare and light reflections. Both these lens options will enhance the natural look of your eyes and emphasise the fashion, rather than the medical, aspect of your frames. We offer high quality lenses which are available in glass, plastic or polycarbonate, and are produced by leading lens manufacturers such as Essilor and Zeiss.
